GOING DIGITAL WAS AN EXPERIMENTAL SUCCESS

Exploring is not just about looking around… it is, above all, a collective process in which explorers meet to share their views, experiences and visions.

During this 2020 edition, revisited in a digital format, EXPLORE not only took up the challenge of digital resilience but also offered its multiple audiences moments sprinkled with rich emotions, sensations, and expressions.

12 HOURS OF LIVE COVERAGE

The result of the partnership between the University of Geneva and EXPLORE, this meeting with the American sociologist Richard Sennett gave rise to a moment of exchange with over 500 people. A world-renowned source of inspiration for urban thinking, Richard Sennett is also a historian, writer, and urban planner. The reflections and discussions with the new generation focused on the current crises 10 (health, ecological and social) and how to respond to them in order to protect the quality of life in cities.

ART, LOCKDOWN AND US

The city invites citizens to interact with each other through different modes of cultural expression. Aline Bovard Rudaz & tali serruya offer us a selection of works created during the health crisis.

GIVE VOICE(S)

THEATRUM MUNDI

From Paris to Geneva via Athens, Theatrum Mundi (the organisation of political voices in the city) illustrates the incredible potential that results from the inclusiveness of their participatory processes. Before coming to Geneva in 2021-22, they were given carte blanche by EXPLORE alongside other local and international guests.

Focus on the Chapelle Charbon project they created in Paris and on the moment of exchange that took place in this edition of EXPLORE

EXPLORE AND/OR PARTICIPATE

This round table offered a dive into the different modalities of interaction available to the populations to take an active part in the transformations of urban territories. Through experiences (completed or in progress), the speakers brought their perspectives as elected officials, specialists in digital innovation or consultation, architects and urban planners. Interactive and open to the participation of all, this moment embodied the theme of the evening in the most beautiful way for a memorable collaborative experience!

AN URBAN PLANNER, A SOCIOLOGIST AND A MAYOR TALK ABOUT THE COVID CITY

Discover the discussion between Ariane Widmer (cantonal urban planner at the Department of Territory), Jean Viard (French sociologist and politician) and Maryam Yunus Ebener (Mayor of Onex). It was held within the framework of EXPLORE20 and allowed them to share their analyses of how to make and plan the city in times of Covid. It is through the local and the collective that we will get there!

MAKING AN ART PLACE A PLACE OF LIFE

Because this edition of EXPLORE was to take place a few steps away from the Nouvelle Comédie, it was noticed that it was thought of as a place of life with the aim of opening perspectives to favour a great audience diversity. By deploying artistic devices within and beyond the walls, this place is clearly part of an innovative approach. The aim is to allow us, through art, to access our own citizenship and to make the city more dynamic.

WHEN THIBAUD COMES TO TOWN…

Behind his deliberately naive mischievousness, Thibaud Agoston offers a deliciously caustic look at the issues raised by EXPLORE. This is an opportunity for the young comedian to underline the special relationship that the population of the Greater Geneva area has with the transformations in urban planning and traffic routes.

“On the one hand, there was the EXPLORE conference and on the other hand, there was the Federal Council conference. In other words, on the one hand they explained to us how to build a city for tomorrow, how to get around in the city of tomorrow, and on the other hand, they explained to us how we won’t be able to get around in today’s city.”

– Thibaud Agoston
